JOEL
Joel has been a member of Galloway NYC since 1999, when he joined to train for the Marine Corps Marathon - thinking it would be his only marathon ever. 30 marathons and over 50 half-marathons later, he is still running and is a true believer in the run-walk-run method! Joel has been a part of the leadership team of Galloway NYC since 2012, and has been a certified running coach since 2016. When not running, he is the assistant principal at the NYC Museum School. Joel believes that running marathons and half-marathons teaches you as much about yourself mentally as it does physically, and we can all find enjoyment in that process. Favorite Races: NYC Marathon, Brooklyn Half Marathon |
ROBIN
Robin has run 43 marathons, 80+ half marathons and one ultra (60K), all using the Galloway method. Run-walk-run has enabled Robin to run injury-free since 1999 and to qualify for and complete four Boston Marathons. In 2017, she celebrated her 15th NYC Marathon by running with both of her sons. Favorite Race: Brooklyn Half Marathon |
RYAN
Dang, Ryan has developed a love of running because of Galloway! Starting his running journey in 2016 with Charlotte Galloway he was encouraged by friends to train for a half-marathon, which he completed his first in Kiawah Beach, SC. After moving to New York City in October 2016, he was walking his dog Spotacus on a Sunday morning and stumbled upon the insanely energetic NYC Marathon and knew right then and there he wanted to run that race. After joining NYC Galloway he finished his first full marathon in 2018! As a new New Yorker, Galloway allowed him to explore the city with new friends during the Saturday runs. When Ryan isn’t running you’ll find him seeking new experiences and adventures: traveling, eating, competing and volunteering. Favorite Race: NYC Half Marathon |
75/30 (12:00 - 13:00 long run training pace)
AMANDA
Amanda been with Galloway since 2014 and a pace group leader since 2016. She ran her first marathon in 2010. She has run the New York City Marathon five times. Amanda joined Galloway NYC when she moved to New York City and was looking for a new club, a way to meet new friends, and see the city. There is no better way to experience New York City than during a long run! Since adopting the Galloway method of running, she feels much better after long runs and has remained injury free. In addition, Amanda has gained a great network of friends and been able to see areas of the city in ways she might have never have otherwise experienced. When Amanda is not running she love to travel to world. Favorite Race: Edinburgh, Scotland Marathon |
BETH
Beth has been running with Galloway NYC since the 2017 NYC marathon training season. During the pandemic, she became obsessed with fitness and now runs a marathon an hour faster than before the pandemic. Beth practices yoga every day and loves to spend time cultivating zen at the studio whenever she can get there. Beth has completed 9 in-person marathons and 4 virtual marathons. She is running Big Sur on April 24th, and NYC in 2022. Her favorite race was the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in New Orleans; it was such an amazing, fun experience. |
LUCIA
Lucia has been running with Galloway NYC for the past three seasons. Thanks to the program and the support of an amazing team, she was able to complete the her first marathon, NYC 2017, strong and smiling the entire way. She loves the outdoors, hiking and traveling/exploring. She is amazed by how New York City pushed her out of her comfort zone into long distance running, something she would have never thought about a few years back! Galloway was just the cherry on top, bringing laughter and camaraderie during the steamy long summer runs. Please don’t mind her if she gasps or makes silly noises whenever she spots a golden retriever (or basically every single dog) during long runs. Favorite Race: NYC Marathon |
60/30 (13:00 - 14:00 long run training pace)
ELVIA
Elvia started running with the Galloway NYC group in 1999. She has completed 68 marathons so far. Among these are 49 states, 12 NYC marathons, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico, where she placed 2nd in her age group). She also ran the Marathon de Paris in France in the Spring of 2001. Ahhh April in Paris...it rained. Elvia has 1 state remaining to complete her goal of 50 states. Due to covid her last state, Hawai’i, has been postponed twice. God willing, this will be the year for her 50th state, in the 50th state on their 50th marathon anniversary. #SavingHawaiiForLast She has done 2 ultra marathons and in 2013 ran 5 consecutive marathons - 5 states in 5 days with 5 friends and on the 5th day ran 30 minutes faster than the first day! Always running the Galloway way and always injury free... for her, there’s just no other way. Elvia likes to smile a lot. Smiling produces serotonin, which keeps her happy and helps her run better…not necessarily faster, but better. Elvia has been married to her soul mate, Pedro, for 35 years, is a Registered Dental Hygienist in NYC for 41 years, and is also a Pink Warrior ... walking, running, dancing and fundraising to fight women's cancer. Favorite Race: Key West Ragnar Relay and le Marathon de Paris. |
WILLIAM
After a decade of suspending his running practice, William recommenced in 2019 with the goal of establishing running as a regular part of his everyday routines. Having trained prior for the Marine Corp Marathon with a Jeff Galloway program, he knew that was the best way, and his preferred way, to get his running legs back under him. Fortunately, Galloway NYC was waiting there to welcome him back. William was lucky to get a bib to run the 2019 NYC Marathon, and with the support of his pace leaders and peers, he was ready to run his first Marathon in over a decade. Though the pandemic got in the way, he returned in spring of 2021 to Galloway NYC and trained with the 60/30 group to run the 2021 50th NYC Marathon. He says that Galloway NYC is the only way he will ever train for a race… of any distance. William enjoys the community and support that he finds among fellow members and runners. He has lived in Brooklyn for 12 years and has worked as a theatre artist for most of his adult life. William’s favorite race is any one he has just finished! He looks forward to being out on training runs with everyone this season! |
LORI
Lori is excited to be a first time pace group leader for the 60:30 group. Lori first tried the Galloway run-walk-run method 2 years ago while using the online app Charge Running and was hooked. Lori learned about the GallowayNYC club in a “small world” moment when she heard Karen Casko co-leading a Galloway run on the app. Once she heard there was a Galloway club right here in New York, she said “sign me up!”. Lori has run many half marathons in the last 10 years and she ran her first marathon ever- the New York City Marathon- last year. She couldn’t have done it without the support and training of the GallowayNYC club. Lori met the legendary Jeff Galloway at his signature half marathon in Atlanta in December 2021. It was definitely a fangirl moment. “Forward Is Forward” is her favorite Galloway mantra. |
45/30 (14:00 - 15:00 long run training pace)
KAREN
Karen accidentally 9+1ed her way in to the 2014 NYC Marathon (having no ulterior motives when she signed up for the volunteer shift!). Too highly coveted of an opportunity to decline, she signed up for it, and went googling for a training plan that got closer to 26.2 than others she'd heard of. Many people say the miles after 20 are all mental – she said "yeah, probably true, but I want mental training, too." She had planned to train solo, but then found Galloway NYC and thought "huh, other people – that sounds more fun" (and WAY more likely to get done). She achieved her goal that year (finish upright and happy), became a pace group leader the following year, and hasn't looked back. |
RANDY
Randy has been a NYC Galloway member since 2019, has completed four marathons, more than a dozen half marathons, and countless five and ten kilometer foot races. When he initially joined Galloway NYC in 2019, he was recovering from an injury and was told that the run/walk/run method would be a great strategy to keep him moving at the age of 50. He soon became a big fan of this style of running and has used it for three years. After gaining confidence with Galloway and finishing several marathons, Randy went on to complete his first Sprint Triathlon in 2021. Trained as a pediatrician, and a 15 year veteran of Newborn Intensive Care Medicine, Dr. Randy has always loved endurance work, exercise, and the never-ending pursuit to improve his wellness. When he’s not running, biking or swimming, he’s trying to use his exercise and endurance training to keep up with the physical and psychological demands of his work as the Chief Operating Officer at MedEdits Medical Admissions, an academic medical consulting group based in New York City. Favorite Race: Hamptons Marathon |
30/30 (15:00 - 17:00 long run training pace)
!DORY
Dory has been with Galloway NYC since 2018. She has completed 21 half marathons and 2 full marathons. Dory will be training for the 2022 NYC Marathon as well as the 2023 Disney World Dopey Challenge. Her favorite races are anything at Disney World, along with the Wineglass Half marathon in Corning, NY. She can’t wait to get to know her fellow group members and make 2022 the best running season yet! |
ELENA
Elena has been with Galloway NYC since 2017 when she trained with the group for her first half marathon (Rock n Roll Bklyn Half). Since then she has completed 4 marathons, (3) NYC Marathons and the AACR Philadelphia Marathon. Elena started running marathons due to the encouragement of her mother Margarita and continues to do so in her honor. Outside of running Elena is a mediator in conflict resolution. She is owned by Katie a rescued greyhound and two domestic shorthaired felines, Tara-Habby and Madeline. Favorite races: Bronx 10 miler, Women’s Mni 10k and the Brooklyn Half |
MARISA
Marisa is thrilled to be joining the Pace Group Leader team with the 30:30 group! Marisa originally started running using the Galloway Run-Walk-Run method in 2012. After running solo for 7 years, she joined Galloway NYC in 2019 and hasn't looked back since! Using the Galloway method, Marisa has completed almost 40 half marathons and 4 marathons, including the 2020 Dopey Challenge (4 races in 4 days: 5K, 10K, Half, and Full Marathon). When not running, Marisa works at a not-for-profit software company supporting the arts and culture world and is actively planning her September 2022 wedding! Favorite Race: Disneyland Paris Half Marathon |
PRISCILLA
Priscilla has been running with Galloway NYC since 2016. She is a certified fitness professional and running coach. She ran her first NYC Marathon in 2018 after breaking her leg in 2017 and being told by her doctor that she would not be able to run again. She is excited to be a pace group leader and looks forward to helping everyone achieve their running goals. Favorite races: NYC Marathon and Reggae Marathon (Negril, Jamaica) |
RUTH
Ruth joined Galloway NYC in 1999 and has run six marathons, 50+ half marathons and countless races of other distances using the run-walk run method. In her “real” life, Ruth is an attorney (wills/estates/real estate closings), administrative law judge, certified personal trainer and certified running coach (phew!). Her simple philosophy is: “If I can do it, so can you!” Favorite Race: Front Runners New York Pride Run |
15/30 (17:00+ long run training pace)
KENDRA
Kendra has been running with the Galloway NYC club since 2016 and is thrilled to continue raising the profile of Galloway in the NYC running community and outfitting the team with awesome swag! She started running in 2015 to raise money for a charity close to heart (the SYTA Youth Foundation) and fell in love with the sport and community. Her Galloway teammates planted the idea that she could run a marathon (something that was never on her bucket list) and she has since completed the NYC Marathon three times! She has also completed 30+ half marathons and countless shorter distances. Kendra also serves as an ambassador for Nuun hydration, Honey Stinger, and PRO Compression socks. When not running, Kendra works in the broadcast studio for MIRROR and is a Broadway and music fanatic. Favorite Race: Wineglass Half Marathon |
